This is in response to the article entitled, ďDiet Coke, Facing Sales Drop, Tries Out New Flavors, Sleek CanĒ which may be found at: https://patch.com/georgia/atlanta/diet-coke-facing-sales-drop-tries-out-new-flavors-sleek-can
Coca Cola says it's breathing new life into the Diet Coke brand with new flavors, bright colors and a skinnier can., The new products may result in skinnier cans but as the study in 2011 showed the product is associated with larger waistlines. It has been known for over three decades that aspartame makes you crave carbohydrates so you gain weight. That's even in the protest of the National Soft Drink Assn, (now American Beverage) when the pop companies were using Dr. Richard Wurtman's affidavit which said: "Aspartame has been demonstrated to inhibit the carbohydrate-induced-synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin blunts the sensation of craving carbohydrates and thus is part of the body's feedback system that helps limit consumption of carbohydrate to appropriate levels. Its inhibition by aspartame could lead to the anomalous result of a diet product causing increased consumption of carbohydrates." Translation: "If you want to get fat aspartame is where itís at."
Here is the entire protest: http://www.rense.com/general96/pepsi.htm One thing the pop companies can't say is they didn't know aspartame would create an epidemic of obesity, misappropriately and deceptively labeled as a diet product since they protested about it themselves before turning around and lobbying for NutraSweet!
Aspartame also is known to precipitate diabetes and to simulate and aggravate diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, destroy the optic nerve, cause diabetics to go into convulsions and even interacts with insulin. ("Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic" (1000 pages) by the late diabetic specialist and world expert on aspartame, H. J. Roberts, M.D.) It has also been known for decades that aspartame causes an irregular heart rhythm, and interacts with all cardiac medication. It damages the cardiac conduction system and causes sudden cardiac death." Here are more reports on this from the experts: http://www.mpwhi.com/aspartame_and_sudden_death.html The Trocho Study showed the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol embalms living tissue and damages DNA. You're pre-embalmed before you die.
Over the years we keep learning about the changes Coke makes. Do enjoy the Coke Chronicles: http://www.mpwhi.com/aspartame_awareness_month_2015.htm
I don't know what kind of PR people they use but in 2013 amid falling sales Coke actually started a campaign to convince the public aspartame is safe. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/diet-fitness/amid-falling-sales-coke-launches-campaign-defend-sweetener-f6C10920355 With controversy from before it was even approved defending aspartame has gone on for decades. Almost 100% of independent scientific peer reviewed studies have shown the problems aspartame triggers or precipitates from raising fasting blood sugar, strokes, heart attacks, metabolic syndrome and birth defects to all types of cancer. The FDA report itself lists 92 symptoms from four types of seizures to blindness, male sexual dysfunction and death. http://www.mpwhi.com/92_aspartame_symptoms.pdfhttp://www.mercola.com/infographics/coke-is-a-joke.htm
What is the evidence for aspartame not being safe?
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." .. Galatians 6:7-9
On August 1, 1985, FDA toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress that at least one of Searle?s studies ?has established beyond any reasonable doubt that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this predisposition of it is of extremely high significance.... In view of these indications that the cancer causing potential of aspartame is a matter that had been established way beyond any reasonable doubt, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?"
The Delaney Amendment makes it illegal to allow any residue of cancer-causing chemicals in foods. Dr Gross concluded by asking, ?Given the cancer-causing potential of aspartame, how would the FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame as constituting an allowable daily intake or ?safe? level of it? Is that position in effect not equivalent to setting a ?tolerance? for this food additive and thus a violation of that law? And if the FDA itself elects to violate the law, who is left to protect the health of the public?? Congressional Record SID835:131 (8/1/85)
Today more and more aspartame is added to generics. I was given two, Zofran and Raglan where aspartame was in the generics and poisoned me. Zofran is used for nausea so what do you suppose physicians prescribe for pregnant women who have morning sickness? Zofran! Then these women gave birth to babies with birth defects like spina bifida, cleft palate and neural tube defects. Already there is a class action on Zofran and, in fact, Raglan as well.
Even today FDA admits they are broken and describes corruption, yet approve another aspartame product, Advantame. The river of complaints and deaths never stop but Coke keeps trying to convince the public this obesity and baby killing machine is safe.
Here is another article recently released:
Diet Coke Just Got An Insane Candy-Colored Makeover To Appeal To Young People
With new flavors like "twisted mango," "zesty blood orange," "feisty cherry" and "ginger lime," as well as slimmed down, candy-colored cans, the new Diet Coke is barely recognizable. You can read about this at: https://apple.news/ATDdnaGfMS02pFhvZ7wAHdw

STATEMENT TO THE FDA ON FOOD LABELING - (Dr. Bowen now resides in Oregon)
JAMES D. BOWEN, M.D.
3118 S Logan Ste.3
Lansing, MI 48910
My statement for the public record regarding food labeling and the aspartame issue is serious if not somewhat facetious at times. The reason for this is because I have found little evidence of honesty, integrity or stability on the part of Food & Drug Administration officials regarding the aspartame issue, since its approval in 1981. This attitude is largely shared by the general public. I come in contact with approximately two new people each week who are now being or who have in the past been poisoned by aspartame.
All of them share the same reactions that it is not worth writing to the FDA or NutraSweet, because you and your agency have run amuck and are no longer a valid public benefactor.
The recent revelations about the problems surrounding generic drug approvals are compelling evidence of what happens when an agency considered itself above the law in dealing with these matters. In my opinion, this has resulted in the mass poisoning of the American public as well as seventy-plus countries in the rest of the world. Watching FDA officials walk through the "revolving door" and be further rewarded by being promoted to other positions of high public responsibility is clear evidence of a government out of control.
For this reason, I am opposed to labeling aspartame content of food and drinks. To do so would imply that the government is taking some sort of responsible action...when the only responsible action would be to immediately take aspartame off the market, fully disclose its toxicities, offer full compensation to the injured, public and criminally prosecute anyone who participated in the fraudulent placement of aspartame on the marketplace. That includes those who work so diligently to keep in on the market as well.
Further, to label the purported aspartame content of a product would cover a number of toxic flaws in the product and its allowable daily intake (ADI) as follows:
In light of the above 4 points, I highly recommend that you deny in every way possible any subterfuge of respectability that the aspartame people have enshrouded themselves and their product within hopes of quickly denying its access to the worldwide marketplace. I write this, not believing that it will do the slightest bit of good in the sense of affecting the labeling issue per se, but that instead, it might reach some honest, concerned, conscientious individuals in the process.
