And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
(Revelation 6:6)
Back in the days that the Bible was being written, the equivalent for the penny would have paid for more than just a measure of wheat or three measures of barley. What we are seeing here are inflated prices for things. Something we are seeing taking place in the stores today. Don't believe me? Just go down to your neighborhood grocery store and look at the prices, which are still continuing to climb skyward almost daily. Try not to hit the ground too hard when you pass out from shock when you see the prices.
The "hurt not the oil and the wine" in the Scripture quoted above, is symbolic of the rich. The way it is going, only the rich will be able to afford to buy enough food to feed themselves, while everyone else struggles just to put anything they can on the table.
There is still time to prepare and get ready for this before it hits us really hard. How you may ask? Well the first and foremost thing is to keep faith in God and trust in Him to do His part as the Scriptures promise us. Second, we must do our part. What is our part you may ask?
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
(Matthew 25:1-13)
We must be like the wise virgins and be prepared. We must store extra food, water, and other supplies that we may need for ourselves and our family. Then when the time comes, we will be prepared. We are not to share what we have stored with the foolish ones who were warned, but did not listen. Be prepared and quickly for the time is running short. Keep the faith and know that soon the bridegroom (Christ) will come for His Own.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
